25th Australian Jamboree - AJ2019
Over the January holidays in 2019, 4 scouts and 2 leaders were part of the 3400 Victorian scouts that attended the 25th Australian Jamboree in Tailem Bend, South Australia. The event saw over 10,000 participants from all over Australia and the world attend for 2 weeks of activities on and off site. The scouts were able to participate in a range of activities including climbing, construction, water activities, plus some more exiting and challenging such as electronics, hairdressing, amateur radio, performing and much more. Each evening saw activities continue in the on site Mall and Main Arena. The opening ceremony was a lavish affair, with Fireworks, pipe bands, aerial displays, and a surprise performance by Ricki Lee. The scouts have also been offsite, attending activities such as tours around Adelaide city, water activities at Wellington, and an overnight activity at the recently rebuilt Woodhouse activity center.
The event was extra special for one Box Hill North scout, with Sarah getting her Australian Scout Medallion presented during the event. Sarah has worked hard for the last 4 years to achieve this award, and after seeing her brother James be presented his award at the previous Jamboree in 2016, it seemed only fitting that she be presented her award on site as well. She was presented her award by a team including former Scout Leader Ged (pictured left), current Scout Leader Hayden (pictured right), as well as Paul De Arugo (District Scout Leader), Peter Marriot (State Commissioner, Education), Andrew Thompson (Region Scout Commissioner, Bays Region), Ian Lancaster (Deputy State Commisioner, Scouts and Deputy Victorian Contingent Leader). All leaders at Box Hill North would like to pass on their congratulations to Sarah.
